Wemolo's office was recently the venue for a very special reunion: Oliver Zeidler, Olympic champion and former freelancer for our accounting team, visited Wemolo for an inspiring talk. He had exciting insights into his personal journey with him - from his beginnings in professional sport to the challenges along the way to the gold medal in Paris 2024.

The time at Wemolo

At the beginning of 2023, Oliver joined the Wemolo team after previously working at Deloitte for eight years. As a freelancer at an agile start-up like Wemolo, he particularly appreciated the opportunity to make a difference and actively shape the company. He still remembers the great team spirit in our Finance team.

However, it was clear from the outset that Oliver would focus entirely on his career in rowing. This decision turned out to be absolutely right.

The Olympic Games

With the gold medal in his hand, Oliver is a role model for many. But his path there was marked by ups and downs. He experienced the biggest setback of his career at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he didn't make it to the final despite being the favorite. "That was a hard blow and I needed a break from sport," he admits openly. But it was precisely this experience that strengthened him mentally and motivated him to prepare for the Games again - with success.

For Oliver, the Olympics is a stage all of its own. "The Olympic Games are the biggest thing. They change everything - even people on the street suddenly recognize me," he says with a smile. He particularly enjoys getting other people excited about sport and inspiring them.

Focus, discipline and team spirit: lessons for sport and work

Whether in sport or in his professional life, Oliver is convinced that aspects such as team cohesion, time management and dedication make all the difference. His routine is characterized by an absolute focus on his goals. "It's important to fully identify with your goals and be passionate about them," he says. According to him, this is the key to success in sport, but also in everyday professional life.
